About the Rainbow Critters

This series of paintings were created to fill a need that was demanded by my children; to paint pictures of things that they would like.  The critters started as playful, colorful renditions of animals from around the world.  They have since evolved into an ever-growing cast of characters who live in the desert, the sea, the jungle and the arctic.  Even their personalities are evolving.  They are recognizably humanlike, but are generally more reasonable.  For example, The Gossips, a trio of penguins named Harriet, Winnie and Mildred, constantly discuss everyone else’s business.  They never do this in a truly harmful way or with evil intent.

All of the critters are comfortable in their environments and want to keep it that way.  They address issues such as clean air, water and land.  They are also concerned with overcrowding and the depletion of natural resources.  Their message is simple, joyous, and understandable by people both young and old.  These brightly colored animals bring awareness of complex problems in a simple way.  They also have answers and solutions to these things giving hope to the viewer for the future.
